The iteach Virginia program has different admission requirements depending on whether the candidate already holds a provisional teaching license.
Candidates Without a Provisional License
Candidates who do not currently hold a provisional license must meet the following requirements:
- Hold an official bachelor’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited university
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.50 overall, or a GPA of 2.50 or higher during the last 60 semester hours of completed coursework
- Complete the required introductory course, TCVA 5000, with a score of 80% or higher on the summative quiz
Candidates With a Provisional License
Candidates who already hold a provisional license must meet the following requirements:
- Submit provisional license information that can be verified through the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) database
- Submit proof of employment as a full-time contracted teacher with an approved partnering school division
- Complete the required introductory course, TCVA 5000, with a score of 80% or higher on the summative quiz
Transcript Requirements
Candidates must submit official transcripts from the institution where they earned their bachelor’s degree.
If you have earned a higher-level degree, we encourage you to submit supplemental transcripts for evaluation. However, a higher-level degree does not replace the requirement to submit bachelor’s degree transcripts.
GPA Evaluation Information
If you are unsure whether your GPA meets admission requirements, we encourage you to apply anyway. Our admissions team will review your transcripts and calculate your GPA for the last 60 semester hours of coursework at no cost.
A GPA waiver may be available for candidates who are currently employed in a full-time teaching position.
Additional Documentation
Our admissions team may request additional documentation to complete your admissions evaluation. Examples may include:
