All iteach Virginia candidates are required to complete the full sequence of instructional coursework (TCVA 5000–5600). However, some certification areas also require additional content-specific courses before you can complete the program.
If content-specific courses are required for your endorsement area, you will see this requirement listed on your Residency checklist as Content Specific Courses, after your Provisional License Eligibility Form (PLEF) has been received from your HR team, and your program has advanced to the Residency stage.
Certification Areas That Require Content-Specific Courses
Content-specific courses are required for candidates pursuing licensure in the following areas:
- Elementary Education (PK–6)
- Special Education General Curriculum (K–12)
- Special Education Adapted Curriculum (K–12)
- Any Middle School certification area (Grades 6–8)
If you are pursuing licensure in any other endorsement area, you are only required to complete the instructional coursework series (TCVA 5000–5600).
Accessing Your Content-Specific Courses
If required for your endorsement area, all content-specific courses will become available in your Canvas dashboard once your account is moved to Residency status. You do not need to complete these courses in a specific order, which differs from the regular instructional coursework.
